Tilia history

When the competition category RCEJ with a type 400 DC motor started flying in 2009, the concepts of the competition models were mostly structural designs (Balsa wood). With the gradual development of this category, models of laminate construction, began to gain ground.

My friend Honza Micka and I decided that we want to win at competitions, so we will invent and also build this laminate special. This was the beginning of our two-year anabasis of research, the search for the right but also dead ends in the production of this technology . Only the selection of the airfoil itself took less than a year. First, I selected about 10 suitable profiles in the Profili II program. After empirical tests on Profile II, 3 profiles remained, which we have already tested directly on our models. From the real tests, we finally chose the R3 profile, which I designed myself in the Profilli II program. This profile, through several years of use in our competition eras, has proven that its aerodynamic properties are ideal for use on models of similar competition categories – RCEK, RCVS, RCEV.

In 2014, when I designed the new 100″ TILIi 25, the characteristics of the R3 profile were maximally manifested by very good glide and stability in climbing.
